The Reform Club, Pall Mall - Smiley's People Location

At the start of part three of Smiley's People we see Smiley park his car in Horse Guards Parade and set off on foot towards The Mall. From there we can guess that he heads towards Waterloo Place, before turning left on to Pall Mall. The Reform Club, which is a private members' club, is less than a 100 yards up on the left hand side.

Originally the club comprised an all-male membership but it was the first to change its rules to include the admission of women on equal terms in 1981. Since its founding in 1836, the Reform Club has been the traditional home for those committed to progressive political ideas. However, it is no longer associated with any particular political party, and it now serves a purely social function.

If you visit the club's website you can see photos of the interior, which match the interior of Smiley's club in the episode.

  1. Interestingly the photo from StreetView at the bottom of the post is the Travellers Club next door. In your second screenshot from the series you can see the same doorway in the very far left. Love this book and series. I think in the book he describes the club as being near Pall Mall rather than on it but apart from that it fits the bill perfectly.
